Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our speech and swallowing services. Tap a question to see the answer.

Who do you see?

We see adults with speech, language, voice or swallowing difficulties, including people recovering from stroke or brain injury, people treated for head and neck cancer, and people living with Parkinson’s disease or other neurological conditions.

Where do therapy sessions take place?

Sessions can be held at a clinic, in the patient’s home, or at a nursing home or care facility. We choose the setting that best suits each patient’s condition, mobility and therapy goals.

Do you offer online (telepractice) sessions?

Yes. Many of our services can be provided online through Zoom, Google Meet, WhatsApp video or FaceTime. Online sessions work well for most speech and language therapy, and for some swallowing reviews and caregiver training. For swallowing difficulties, we may recommend an in-person assessment first so we can check that eating and drinking are safe.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No, you can contact us directly. If you have a doctor’s letter or hospital reports, please share them, as they help us plan the first session.

What happens at the first session?

We carry out a full assessment of speech, language, voice and/or swallowing, discuss your goals, and set out a therapy plan. We also give advice to family members and caregivers.

How long is a session, and how often?

Sessions are usually 45–60 minutes. How often depends on each person’s needs and goals, and we discuss this at the assessment.

What is FEES?

Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) uses a thin, flexible camera passed through the nose to look directly at the throat during swallowing. It shows what is happening when someone swallows and helps decide which foods and drinks are safest. FEES can be done at an ENT doctor’s clinic or at home.

Can I claim the cost through insurance?

Some insurance plans cover speech therapy. Please check with your insurer, and we can give you receipts and reports to support your claim. Our services are not claimable under Medisave.

Do you offer a second opinion?

Yes. We review complex or long-standing swallowing difficulties, including cases where progress has stalled or past results are unclear.

Do you publish patient testimonials?

No. To protect patient confidentiality, we do not publish testimonials. We are happy to discuss relevant past cases and outcomes during your consultation.

Do you provide training for nursing homes and care staff?

Yes. We provide consultations and staff training on swallowing safety, texture-modified diets and communication support.

What languages do you speak?

Depending on the therapist, sessions can be conducted in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien, Malay or Bahasa Indonesia. Please let us know your preferred language when you contact us.
